This solution is a part of AVEVA’s portfolio and is intended to help upskill the digitally native workforce to meet the requirements for an Industry 4.0 environment. Workers can use AVEVA’s training solution to develop and grow their knowledge to become control and automation system experts.

The Skills Gap

There is a critical skills shortage in software, smart technology, robotics, and IIoT (industrial internet of things) components in the industrial automation industry. The skills gap in this area is an issue in the U.S. and across the globe.

Engineers with the right skills are getting harder to find. As technology grows more complex, companies find it difficult to hire talent with the appropriate skill set. Software engineers are in high demand because there is no proper training system for them, and these engineers move on quickly to better opportunities.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that there will be more computer science jobs by 2020 than can be filled by qualified workers. Jobs in this field are also projected to grow further from 2020 to 2030.

Veteran engineers who have been in the field for 40 years or more need to retrain and upgrade their skills to meet upcoming Industry 4.0 standards. Additionally, young students at college need more tailored programs that can provide specific skills required for jobs surrounding control and automation systems for the manufacturing industry.

AVEVA’s Learning Platform

AVEVA brought forward its cloud-based Unified Learning solution, which provides engineers in the industrial sector with a learning environment centered around training and simulation applications. AVEVA’s common cloud platform, AVEVA Connect, helps engineers connect from anywhere to maximize learning time and minimize time wasted traveling to training events.

AVEVA’s new learning platform provides competency-based experiential learning through eLearning videos, simulation (using operator training simulators and extended reality), microlearning, and competency management.

Available videos provide information concerning process understanding, relevant procedures, policies, and references. Learners can use simulators to gain a digital insight into control room scenarios and undertake activities on operating procedures, abnormal conditions, start-up, shutdown, and more.

AVEVA Unified Learning helps train leaders to simplify the management of training programs for new employees with a range of experience and cater to the training of existing employees. This can reduce the skills gap in the workforce and help to maintain a smooth and productive working environment.

With AVEVA’s new learning solution, engineers can continually develop and connect with other workers with various specialties to drive operational excellence in industrial settings. To find out more about AVEVA Unified Learning, you can visit their website.
