IDC230 Multicode Reader

The IDC230 multicode reader, part of Baumer's IDC series, can read multiple lines of text and 1D and 2D codes at a range of 50 to 1000 mm and at high speeds up to forty frames per second. Notable features include quick deployment and ease of integration.

In many cases, setting up sensors requiring software downloads for configuration can be time-consuming. Typically, IT departments handle software downloads in a commercial environment. However, IT departments often have multiple tasks, and obtaining the necessary software download for the sensor can take days to weeks. In addition, learning how to use the sensor's software can add to the time required. This can turn a task initially expected to take only a day or two into a much longer process.

Integration and Commissioning

Baumer has addressed these challenges by making the IDC230’s software accessible via the web, eliminating the need for manual downloads. Furthermore, Baumer has introduced an auto-setup feature, enabling the reader to interpret multiple codes with a single click. This simplifies the setup process and reduces the time needed to integrate the IDC230 into production.

Thanks to its versatile connectivity options, connecting to the IDC230 is a breeze. Users can connect to the reader via a laptop using a USB-C to USB-A cable, which is used to recognize the reader via the web interface. When connecting the multicode reader to a PLC, the IDC230 offers a range of options, including Ethernet, USB-C, Profinet, and DIO. This ensures integration into a wide range of automation cells, making it a versatile and compatible choice.

Code and Text Reading Across Applications

In many detection applications, lighting can be a challenge. This is why many companies that sell detection sensors recommend using halo lights along with their sensors. These halo lights can be expensive, sometimes costing over $1,000. However, Baumer has addressed this issue in its IDC230 by integrating LED lights directly into the reader. The IDC230 features 16 LED lights for illumination, with four segments around the reader that can be individually switched on and off. Baumer's solution saves on extra costs, programming, and wiring that would have been necessary if a halo light was used for the application.
