Getting Technical About the EL8601-8411 Terminal.
The EL8601-8411 EtherCAT terminal comprises a 12-channel multi-interface with up to 9 different signal types consisting of the following signals:
- 8 x Digital inputs configured as 24V DC, .5A, Up/Down Counter with a counting frequency of 100kHz, or 24V HTL encoder with 100kHz frequency with A and B Tracking including latch and gate function
- 2 x Digital outputs configured as 24V DC, .5A, or PWM (24 V DC or .5A) signals
- 1 x analog input configured as + 10V, 12 bit, or + 20mA
- 1 x analog output configured as + 10V, 12 bit, or + 20mA
The EL8601-8411 is a versatile device supporting multiple signal types, enabling it to receive and transmit signals from various hardware sources such as push buttons/switches, servo motor control, digital encoders, analog load meters, and non-contact sensors. However, with the limited number of terminals on the EL8601-8411 EtherCAT terminal, not all available signals can be used simultaneously.

Beckhoff's 12-channel interface is constructed with durable polycarbonate material, ensuring robustness and longevity. With its compact dimensions of 12mm x 100mm x 68mm and an impressive industry protection rating of IP65/66/67, this interface offers both resilience and space efficiency. The size and durability make this multi-channel interface ideal for reducing cabinet size or harsh environments.
The multi-I/O interface parameters on the EtherCAT terminal can be configured using Beckhoff's TwinCAT PC-based control software, enabling real-time control of control systems through the "modules/slots" approach.
Beckhoff’s TwinCAT System
Beckhoff's TwinCAT offers EtherCAT terminals with a notable edge over competing terminals available in the market. EtherCAT allows users to incorporate real-time controls into virtually any PC-based system, supporting multiple PLC, NC, CNC, or robotic runtime systems. Beckhoff has designed the TwinCAT system to facilitate the seamless integration of third-party components into existing machines and systems, ensuring optimal flexibility.
