Meet ARIA: BrainBox AI’s Virtual Building Management Assistant

BrainBox AI’s new AI-powered virtual building assistant, ARIA, is designed to pave the way for smart, energy-efficient, and sustainable buildings.

BrainBox AI has developed an AI-driven, cloud-based solution for self-adaptive, 24/7 building maintenance. The solution is a virtual building assistant called ARIA (Artificial Responsive Intelligent Assistant). ARIA uses tailored AI algorithms based on control points, building equipment, occupant comfort standards, and other preferences, tuning in and modifying where necessary to reduce needless energy consumption and carbon emissions in line with sustainability objectives.

ARIA (Artificial Responsive Intelligent Assistant)

ARIA was built on the foundation of Amazon Bedrock, a service that provides customers with all the necessary tools and computing power to build generative AI applications. Through a single application programming interface, developers can choose between and evaluate foundation models from companies like Meta, AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Mistral AI, Amazon, and more.

Alongside BrainBox AI’s AI HVAC Optimization solution, ARIA helps reduce HVAC energy costs and carbon emissions by up to 25% and 40%, respectively. BrainBox AI’s technology works by connecting to a building's HVAC system via cloud-connected thermostats or through an existing control system. The solution maps point names and normalizes the data. Following this learning phase, virtual tests are conducted to deduce the most appropriate algorithms for a given building’s environment.

The AI engine can modify HVAC equipment parameters in real time and make necessary adjustments every five minutes to reduce energy consumption. Other parameters, such as demand control ventilation, humidity, and dew point control, are also used to optimize building systems and their energy use. The use of AI also allows the solution to pull in data such as utility tariff structures, occupancy data, and grid emission rates.

According to BrainBox AI, its AI solution can predict a building's future status with an accuracy of 99.6%. The solution can also adapt to changing weather conditions and HVAC equipment changes. A 24/7 monitoring service keeps tabs on alarms or potential problems to ensure equipment runs and uses energy as efficiently as possible.

Building Efficiency

According to the International Energy Agency, building operations contribute to 30% of final energy consumption globally. Further, building operations contribute to 26% of global energy-related emissions, with a large proportion of this stemming from indirect emissions (18%, such as heat used in buildings and electricity production) and a smaller proportion representing direct emissions (8%).
