Oriental Motor’s Mini Drivers Now Feature Ethernet-based Modbus TCP/UDP Connectivity
Ethernet-based Modbus TCP/UDP connectivity has been added to Oriental Motor's αSTEP AZ Series mini drivers, which can be controlled using a programming language like Python with the use of a desktop or single-board computer.
Oriental Motor, a company specializing in manufacturing and supplying motion control products, including motors and motorized actuators, has added αSTEP AZ Series mini drivers to its product lineup. The new drivers can connect with Ethernet-based Modbus TCP/UDP. In addition, the drivers can be programmed using any language of choice, such as Python, on PC devices or through single-board computers, like Raspberry Pi or Jetson.

New αSTEP AZ Series Mini Drivers
Oriental Motor's new αSTEP AZ Series mini driver lineup can be operated using 24/48 VDC. Designed for use with single-board computer systems, like the Raspberry Pi, users can directly connect to the commuting system and run their program of choice. The AZ Series mini drivers can be used with DC input AZ Series motors in addition to linear and rotary actuators, giving users a wide range of application possibilities.
The ability to use different programming languages helps facilitate quick installation, as users can opt to use the language they are most familiar with. The device supports wireless systems over Ethernet for greater connectivity. The driver can be connected to the motor via a CN2 cable, which must be purchased separately. Connecting a control power supply allows users to continue monitoring even if the main power supply is shut off.

Ethernet-based Modbus TCP/UDP Connectivity
The new driver is priced at $615; however, the CN2 cable, which is needed for the product to be successfully integrated, is sold separately. Once purchased, the driver has a lead time of 17 business days and can be used with Oriental Motor's AZ Series motors. The drivers also feature built-in protective functions to help protect sensitive equipment from damage.
The power supply control unit can provide 0.15 A for standard motors, 0.4 A for brake motors, and 0.23 A for Oriental Motor’s AZM46 motors. The devices are UL and CE safety rated with a baud rate of 100 Mbps, and unlimited units can be connected based on Ethernet capacity. The new mini drivers offer users a versatile new way of connecting to Oriental Motor's AZ Series motors with the use of single-board computing systems and their programming language of choice.
