Since the release of Yaskawa’s GA800 variable speed drive in 2019, the lineup has demonstrated a combination of power, ease of use, and flexibility. The GA800 is a high horsepower drive capable of providing variable speed to motors. It is designed for a wide range of applications, from simple fans or pumps to complex processes like high-performance test dynamometers requiring precise motor regulation.

GA800 AC Drive Product Lineup Expansion

The latest additions to Yaskawa’s GA800AC drive product line include the GA800 frame 12, GA800 480V, 700-1000 HP configured packages, and the GA800 480V, 400-600 HP configured size reduction.

The new GA800 frame 12 is 39% smaller in width and 34% lighter than the previous generation A1000 drive. It can be field configurable to provide 6-pulse or 12-pulse inputs without a special model change. The type 12 heat sink kit can be integrated into the GA800 frame 12 without the need for a special model kit as well.

The GA800 480 V, 700-1000 HP version fits into two categories: the F1T (F1 Tall) enclosure and the Type 3R F2 enclosure. The F1T is now 54% smaller in width, uses semiconductor fusing as the standard configuration, and includes SCCR up to 100kA, depending on its configuration. The Type 3R F2 enclosure contains the same features but is 19% smaller in width and is available with or without a reactor.

The two-door floor mount, normally associated with the GA800 480V, 400 to 600 HP normal duty, is now available in the F1 enclosure with only 1 door. This ensures that the drive fits into a footprint that is 50% smaller than the existing GA800 configured.

Along with its durable and high-performance design, Yaskawa has worked to ensure the GA800 drive offers versatile network communication options, built-in functional safety features, and user-friendly tools that include mobile device connectivity options. A rugged and reliable design helps to ensure that any GA800 drive will survive the most harsh industrial environments. Different enclosure options are built to ensure that the VFDs will be suited for their unique environments.

The drives are available with a multi-language display and an optional Bluetooth configuration allows users to interact with DriveWizardMobile for convenient and easy interaction via a mobile device. Users can configure and monitor the system with DriveWizard Desktop. When programming, users can take advantage of DriveWorks EZ (embedded function blocks) for added flexibility, which would otherwise require a separate controller. The VFDs can be programmed without main power through an embedded USB port.

Closed or open loop vector control offers regulation and torque production, ensuring precise performance and efficiency in various applications. The embedded auxiliary control power input (24 V) maintains network communication even when the main power is removed, thereby helping to maximize production time and efficiency.
